The Messianic Experience Number 2 – Why We Worship on Saturday

Why do we gather for worship on Saturday?

The answer is surprisingly simple: Leviticus 23:3,”Work may be done for six days, but the seventh day is a Shabbat of solemn rest, a holy convocation. You are to do no work—it is a Shabbat to Adonai in all your dwellings.” It is a convocation, a gathering. Traditionally, this gathering is to worship, hear / read Scripture and fellowship.

It is God’s Sabbath so it is dedicated to Him. We shut out the world and it force a hard reset for the coming week. The peace we find in God and in the holy convocation pictures our future eternal life with Him via the atonement made by Yeshua.

Is it wrong to worship on Sunday? No, not at all. We should worship God and our Messiah every moment of every day. Some people worship with us on Saturday and at a church on Sunday. The commandment regarding the Sabbath says we are to gather on the seventh day, but not that it is the only day to gather! The caution of course is to be aware of the potential mix of theologies.

The Bible is all I need; I don’t need to see people face to face. If you believe that that our Messiah is returning, heed Hebrews 10:24-25, “And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good deeds. And do not neglect our own meetings, as is the habit of some, but encourage one another—and all the more so as you see the Day approaching.”

Here’s the difficult part – if are trying to do all that God says to do in a quest to be faithful to His word, and purposely ignore gathering together on Shabbat, then you are not being faithful to God’s word.

So here’s the simple answer: We worship on Saturday because it is a Biblical commandment and God never changed the commandment. Can we also worship on Sunday? Of course. I pray you worship God and His Messiah Yeshua / Jesus everyday!
